Ritual is a powerful tool; I am interested in sharing techniques that can support healing, gentleness in both the beginning and ending of cycles. I aspire to create an opportunity where action and spirituality meet. Each box contains an experiences of ritual that are both singular and repetitive. These rituals are meant to be an opportunity for its participants to engage with prayer and the four elements, earth, water, fire and air. El ritual es una herramienta poderosa; estoy interesado en compartir técnicas que pueden apoyar la curación, la mansedumbre tanto en el principio como en el final de los ciclos. Aspiro a crear una oportunidad donde la acción y la espiritualidad se encuentran. Cada caja contiene experiencias rituales que son a la vez singulares y repetitivas. Estos rituales están destinados a ser una oportunidad para que sus participantes se involucren con la oración y los cuatro elementos: Tierra, agua, fuego y aire. |
From the Corn / Del MaizAs I reflect on my life’s purpose and Central American roots I am reminded of the Maya Pipil and Lenca ancestry from the region of Honduras and El Salvador. This history informs my identity. The corn in Mayan mythology represents the creation of humanity among other things. This is my humble offering to my ancestors, guides and guardians. Al reflexionar sobre el propósito de mi vida y las raíces centroamericanas, me recuerdan los ancestros Maya Pipil y Lenca de la región de Honduras y el Salvador. Esta historia informa mi identidad. El maíz en la mitología maya representa la creación de la humanidad entre otras cosas. Esta es mi humilde ofrenda a mis antepasados y guías. |

Astrological Tapestry / Tapiz Astrologico
Tapestries are windows into stories long forgotten from our ancestors. From the materials to the iconography, when viewing a tapestry we are being asked to see something other and tap into another part of ourselves. With this piece I hope to spark curiosity and experimentation with the substrate. Tapices son ventanas en historias olvidadas de nuestros antepasados. Desde los materiales hasta la iconografía, al ver un tapiz se nos pide ver algo diferente y tocar otra parte de nosotros mismos. Con esta pieza espero despertar curiosidad y experimentación con el sustrato. |

Visionarios/ Visionaries This particular piece was made in refection of my participation in a Jamblecha Ceremony more commonly known as a Vision Quest during the changing of the seasons in September 2019.
In acknowledgement to Tio Fred, Ann-Marie and those who support the Visionaries. Thank you for generously offering your home, time, and heart for deep healing. To my deepest love for the water, earth and my spiritual guides. Thank you for nourishing my body and soul, with your help I am growing into awareness of my artivistry and ancestry. Fall 2019. Queulat 12pt. Murcielago Prensa. Printed at Eucalyptus Press. Mills College on Polymer Plates. English and Spanish translations. Hand dyed with Raw Cacao on Rives 250gsm paper. Bound using Palm Leaf structure tied with rainbow 100% cotton thread. In cased in a 11" x 3" x 5" Cedar Wood Box with carvings of Mayan Directional Glyphs, . Front adorned with 1 1/4in Brass Nails. |

In acknowledgement to my deepest love for the water, as I grow into awareness of my artistry and ancestry.
I am a first generation born on Native Tongva land from Lenca and Pipil ancestry. Inspired by my ancestry I created this piece as a ceremonial tool for all those whom chose to participate. I offered an opportunity to the class community to write something they wanted to let go of inside the water soluble pages and then proceeded to dissolve the entire book in a ceremony outside. Fall 2019. Hand written text on water soluble paper. Piano Hinge Binding using 7" long copper wire with weaved leather strips on the ends. Adorned with Clear Quartz Crystal and Dragonfly pendant.
